Thaers Garden In 1786, just before his wedding, Albrecht Daniel THAER (14.05.1752 - 26.10.1826) bought the area of the actual park from the brewer Heinrich Reimers from Celle. In 1712 the estate was mentioned in a document for the first time under the name of Reimerskamp and later under the name of Reimersgarten; immediately after buying, Thaer let built the manor house which has been preserved to this day. Whether Thaer carried out agricultural experiments on these grounds is no more provable. Anyhow, in 1804 Thaer has been offered a chair at Prussia and he founded there the first German agricultural academy at the Möglin manor in the Mark Brandenburg. Before the Celle Town Council has acquired possession in 1934, the Thaers Garden and its manor house had gone through changeable days. The constantly alternating owners tried to make economic profit from the building and its park which still had shown the style of Thaer. Worth mentioning is the opening of a café by the economist Backhaus in 1805, the expansion into a restaurant with dancing and serving beer under the merchant ARTLER from Celle („Artlersgarten“, from circ. 1838 until 1880 under several owners) and finally the attempt of the Merchant GOY of Francfort at dividing the grounds into 48 plots of land for building (1927). Fortunately, buying the Thaers Garden the Celle Town Council could prevent the building on these grounds. Today the manor house is rented as residential building and the park has become an important recreational area nearby the building at the edge of the nature reserve "Oberes Allertal" [the upper valley of the river Aller].
