Unterlüß

Numbering about 4,500 residents (including the village of Lutterloh), Unterlüß is situated within the unique “Lüßwald” with its 8,000 hectares. It owes its existence to the construction of the railway from Hanover to Hamburg. The first train stopped here on 1 May 1847. Unterlüß cannot only be reached by car, but also comfortably by train. Situated in the Nature Park South Heath, it offers the Lüßwald and unspoilt heathland that makes for a relaxing holiday. Along bicycle and hiking paths visitors are able to reach nearby places like Müden, Faßberg, Eschede/Weyhausen, Hermannsburg and Hösseringen.

Sightseeing

Natural forest reservation at the Lüßwald (“Urwald”), 150 year-old storehouse in Lutterloh, extensive unspoilt heathland around Oberohe and Lutterloh, circular walk “Infusorial Earth” (3.5 km) at Oberohe.

Museums

Albert König Museum. This art museum is dedicated to the preservation of the artistic estate of the painter and graphic artist Albert König (1881-1944). Changing exhibitions depict the works of other important artists.

Leisure facilities

Sauna and massage at Altensothriethweg 82, bowling at the restaurant „Am Hochwald“, skittles at the hotel „Goldene Kugel“, guided walks and bicycle tours, shooting at the Wildbahn, tennis (by prior arrangement), covered wagon tours.

Annual events

New Year’s Concert, Easter fire on Easter Saturday on the “Schützenplatz”, erection of the maypole on 1 May in the town hall square, riflemen’s festival last weekend of July, Village Festival last weekend of August, “bread and lard eating” during the season every Thursday in the town hall square, Christmas Market.
