Hermannsburg

This heathland village is situated about 30 km north of the district seat of Celle and about 65 km south of the ancient salt town of Luneburg, on the western edge of the Nature Park South Heath, in the valley of the river Örtze. The rural environment is the ideal setting for a relaxing holiday amidst nature.
Hermannsburg is proud of its 1000 year-old history.
The Saxon duke Hermann Billung established a defensive castle against the Wends.
Around this, a settlement developed which took its name from the duke.
The settlement grew into the modern Hermannsburg of today which with its 8,500 residents rather resembles a small town than a village.
Five further villages belong to the municipality of Hermannsburg. It gained national importance and international fame as the founding place of the Hermannsburg Mission of 1849 which originates from a spiritual awakening of the then pastor Ludwig Harms.
A bonus is the central location of the village: all leisure and animal parks in the vicinity can be reached within an hour’s drive.
