German Oil Museum

On a two-hectare section of the former oilfield at Wietze which was closed down in 1963, extraction and drilling installations from 1900 until the present time can be seen. An exhibition presents, in an interesting and entertaining way, the raw material oil, its extraction and its use from the production of aspirin to the tooth-brush. A reconstructed see-page shaft shows how oil was extrac-ted by mining.
