Bergen

The large number of Bronze Age megalithic graves in and around Bergen as well as the remarkable archaeological finds testify that more than 3000 years ago the town was an important site.
Today this lively small town in the southern Luneburg Heath offers – apart from fresh air and extensive nature – ideal conditions for the active holidaymaker as well as the entire family.
Cycling and hiking are trumps. Almost all facilities which make a pleasant and varied holiday are available in the town or its immediate vicinity. Due to its central position, Bergen is also an excellent starting point for day trips to the surrounding area – either by car or bicycle.
Even the military training area near Bergen occasionally opens up for visitors and allows sightseeing tours or the very popular group cycling tours or hikes across the military area.
On offer for in-line skaters are more than 35 km in partially unspoilt nature. Since 1977 Bergen has been twinned with Pembroke in Wales.
Friendly contacts also exist with the Saxon municipality of Ottendorf-Okrilla near Dresden and the Czech holiday resort of Roznov pod Radhostem.
On 9 October 1999, twinning documents were exchanged in Bergen between Bergen and the town of Srem in the region of Wielko Polski.
